Kincardine Bield CIC (Kincardine Sanctuary) is a new Community Interest Company formed to manage the farm known as the Hirsel, and to preserve and share it as a community asset.
This page will act as the landing area for the CIC until it builds a website of its own. For info, write to Donna Gillies: info@thehirsel.com
MISSION
To manage the farm known as The Hirsel as a community asset through increased community involvement in the preservation, restoration, and management of the historic buildings, woodlands, and wetlands. To increase public access through hands-on learning and social activities focused on rural skills, local history and heritage, and traditional crafts.
Kincardine Bield will help people…
- Reconnect with nature through increased access to local land
- Increase their own and our community’s access to healthy, affordable local food
- Recharge by taking time out in a natural setting, and with outdoor activities;
- Learn and better appreciate the history and heritage of rural life in the Scottish Highlands;
- Learn rural skills and traditional crafts in a historic setting;
- Create community through shared experiences.
We’ll do this by
- Caring for the land and livestock using agroecological methods, encouraging wildlife, and working toward nature recovery, increased biodiversity and carbon storage;
- Offering learning opportunities through activities on the farm, in our wild places, and in workshops;
- Creating a sanctuary from a stressful world, and opportunities to rest and recharge by reconnecting with nature;
- Buildng partnerships with other businesses and organizations who share our ethos, to build a sustainable rural community.
Ensuring that the land now known as The Hirsel becomes, and continues to be, a community asset for generations to come.
